Suspenseful nothings (2)

Here is the second part of Suspenseful Nothings . :-)

"Lucy! Oh, Lucy!"Sarah called out in alarm. The woods looked dark and foreboding, and, alas, she could see no Lucy.
Meanwhile, Lucy had just walked around a huge oak tree when the danger of the wood came upon her. The danger was something almost indescribable, as it was not any thing at all, at least not a physical thing.... The best way it could be described was as a big dark cloud that formed in a person's mind. As Lucy looked around the wood, she suddenly saw distorted faces in tree trunks, and eyes peering out of every crevice and corner. The tree's branches turned into claws that seemed to stretch out their knobby hands to grab at her. She tried to shut out the sight by closing her eyes, but it did no good! She could still see the foreboding wood, and the terror the trees contained. She finally collapsed on an old rock, and cried very hard.
Sarah ran at top speed, crashing wildly against tree branches and tripping over stones and pebbles, but pushing forward nonetheless. Her hair ribbon fell out, and was lost amongst dead leaves. The hem of her dress was torn into shreds, and she was starting to feeling tired and hungry. Where had Lucy gone? And where was mother? The forest began to dim, for the afternoon sun was slowly fading, disappearing behind the horizon. Sarah knew her search for Lucy was almost hopeless, and with that, she flung herself down on a rock and cried most bitterly.
When Sarah awoke (for she was so worn out she had fallen asleep), it was to find herself in the midst of a glittering forest; all the trees were alight with the sun, and every thing was wet and moist, not from dew, but rain. Sarah knew it must be rain, for her hair and clothes were very wet, and the rock she was sleeping on felt slippery. She got up at once, and stretched, walking very slowly around the clump of maple trees, that were huddled together in the most frightful fashion. Her first thought was to eat breakfast, but what was there to eat? In this forest, one could not be certain whether every thing in it was poisonous, or if there was some thing good in it too. As these thoughts crossed her mind, she ran into tree, and fell onto a large growth of very wet moss, for moss acts as a soft carpet does when you spill a glass of water on it; it absorbs all the water it can, and, unless you can clean it up in time, will become most irksome, particularly if you walk over it with wool socks, for then your socks absorb the water too, and make it very uncomfortable walking, not to mention that the socks can then spread water to many other places on the carpet, where the same thing happens all over again. Needless to say, Sarah was soaked through (if she wasn't already) when she arose, and felt greater despair than before.
"I say! Can I help you?" Sarah was confronted with a boy not much older than she. He looked strong and sure o himself, only he was slightly green.
"Do you happen to sell green beans, and other canned goods?" Sarah couldn't help but ask.
"Oh, no!" the boy laughed. "That's my father.... His name is the "Green Giant." He can't seem to figure out why I'm not growing as big as him. He even feeds me Lima beans, and I don't grow an inch! Oh, well, that's not what I came for...... Are you needing help?"
"Um, yes, actually," Sarah stammered. "You see, my sister Lucy is lost in the wood in our Living room, and mother fell off to the side of an oak tree or something, and I don't know what's edible in this whole wide wood!"
"Huh! That's easy! Go find your mother and your sister, and eat Green Giant green beans." he turned to go.
"Um, it's not all that easy for me, you see, I don't know where my mother or sister are and-"
"That's why you need to find them."
"And how am I to find them? And where are you father's delicious green beans?"
The boy thought for a moment. Then he shrugged his shoulders and said, "I don't know..." and walked away, leaving a very puzzled Sarah to try and fend for herself.

To be continued later (though nothing happened in this chapter)......

Psalm 28:1-9

To you I will cry, O LORD my Rock:
Do not be silent to me,
Lest, if you are silent to me,
I become like those who go down to the pit.
Hear the voice of my supplications
When I cry to You,
When I lift up my hands toward your holy sanctuary.

Do not take me away with the wicked
And with the workers of iniquity,
Who speak peace to their neighbors,
But evil is in their hearts.
Give them according to their deeds,
And according to the wickedness of their endeavors;
Give them according to the work of their hands;
Render to them what they deserve.
Because they do not regard the works of the LORD,
Nor the operation of His hands,
He shall destroy them
And not build them up.

Blessed be the LORD,
Because He has heard the voice of my supplications!
The LORD is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusted in Him, an dI am helped;
Therefore my heart greatly rejoices,
And with my song I will praise Him.

The LORD is their strength,
And He is the saving refuge of His appointed.
Save Your people,
And bless Your inheritance;
Shepherd them also,
And bear them up forever.
(Psalm 28:1-9)

From the notebook....

What season is this?
When door-bells start dinging,
And sleigh-bells start jingling;
Oh, what season is this?

What season is this?
With the chicken and roast beef,
Frying slowly on the mantle piece;
Oh, what season is this?

What season is this?
When chestnuts are burning,
To a delight black crunching;
Oh, what season is this?

What season is this?
When in the sky is a rainbow,
O're the children playing in snow;
Oh, what season is this?

The answer my friend,
Is a simple one,
"The Christmas season."
And now, this is done.

John 1:1-27

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but he was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives life to every man coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born , not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying,
"This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.' "
And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son , who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. Now this is a testimony of John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him,
"Who are you?"
He confessed and did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ."
And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?"
He said, "I am not."
"Are you the Prophet?"
And he answered, "No."
Then they said to him, " Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?"
He said, "I am 'the voice of of one crying in the wilderness: "Make straight the way of the LORD," ' as the prophet Isaiah said."
Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees, And they asked him, saying, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"
John answered them, saying, "I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know. It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose."

Psalm 100

Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands!
Serve the LORD with gladness;
Come into His presence with singing.
Know that the LORD, He is God.
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves,
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him,
And bless His name.
For the LORD is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures for all generations.
(Psalm 100)

From the notebook....

Poor little Thursday, it sits alone,
Friday and Wednesday it is squashed between;
It talks to no one, but holds to it's own;
Therefore, please do not think it mean!

Poor little Thursday, it sits in the corner;
It tends to look oh! so sad!
But lest you think it is a mourner,
Let me inform you, it isn't that bad.

Psalm 47:1-9

Oh, clap your hands all you peoples!
Shout to the God with the voice of triumph!
For the LORD Most High is awesome;
He is a great King over all the earth.
He will subdue the peoples under us,
And the nations under our feet.
He will choose our inheritance for us,
The excellence of Jacob whom He loves. (Selah)
God has gone up with a shout,
The LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
Sing praises with understanding.
God reigns over the nations;
God sits on His holy throne.
The princes of the people have gathered together,
The people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
He is greatly exalted.
(Psalm 47:1-9)

Can you guess what this word is?

I was reading in school today about deoxyribonucleic acid. Almost every one knows the abbreviation for it, and I'm sure that people in Biology know what it is right off. But I thought it would be fun to see who knows it off hand......

WORDS: deoxyribonucleic acid
HINTS: 1. It has to do with Biology.
2. Something in your body

Leave a comment if you know what the abbreviation is. :-)

A Wednesday Weather Report

As I am interested in Meteorology, I decided I must write something dedicated to the weather. So, though I'm not able to predict weather in any way, I can tell what the weather in our area is like right now. So, as you can see, off to the side, I have recorded the temperature in Fahrenheit; Mostly cloudy and We had snow flurries just a moment ago. The first snow of the season! (It didn't stick, however.) The weather report says that it should be mostly cloudy, temperatures fluctuating between 40-47 degrees. 27-47 degrees (20 degrees difference). Thursday, Friday and Saturday are supposed to be mostly cloudy, in the 42, 47, and 43 mark. Wind speed? I'm not sure..... I'm not a polished meteorologist. :-)
Scientific point: Three factors that effect weather are
1. thermal (heat) energy,
2. Uneven distribution of heat, and
3. The behavior of water vapor in the atmosphere.

From the notebook.... The Moving Monday

What fun it is to move around,
Furniture that has long sat down,
To move them into corners new
(Including the couch so nice and blue).

Although sweet memories come to mind,
Of the old rocking chair e'er so kind,
That used to sit in the corner, too
(Along with the couch so nice and blue).

Yet ever so often, we need something different,
Something that'll let us have more enjoyment,
And thus we move things to corners new
(Including the couch so nice and blue).

Suspenseful nothings (1)

Lucy gasped in amazement. The wood was larger than she had ever expected. Her mother had been right in telling her not to go there. And yet, here she was. She could never remember exactly how she got there, but she knew that it was not by her own doing. She had been peacefully sewing a quilt together in her Living room, with mother sitting nearby. When her mother left the room, however, some thing strange happened! It was not an ordinary thing- if it had been there would be no use in telling about it. The curtain in the window puffed out as though a strong wind were blowing it. Lucy's quilt flew out of her hands and floated under the table against the wall. The cat sleeping peacefully on the rug in front of the fire a woke meowing in the most pitiful tones, and disappeared as it ran through a the door leading into the kitchen. Just as Lucy was crawling under the table to retrieve her quilt, a tree seemed to grow out of the floor. Lucy dodged it quickly only to run into another one that appeared on the sofa. Lucy was feeling quite puzzled as she stared at the tree by the mantel piece, as a big pine made it's way up through the floor by the table. Another one pierced the rug as it tried to spread it's branches. Not only were all these trees popping up from nowhere, but they were growing! They were growing taller and taller, and spreading the branches of their crown farther and farther. Lucy tried to escape by running into the kitchen, but a tree branch got in the way. She ran across the room to climb through the window, but she was blocked there too. She sat down on the floor that was gradually feeling moist and rough, and cried very hard. When she finally stopped crying and looked up, it was to find herself in this great wood. Her home and the cozy living room was no where to be seen. When she tried to calm herself down and figure out just what had happened, it occurred to her that this might be the wood her mother had forbidden her from going to. And somehow, as soon as the thought came to her, everything made sense suddenly, though she knew not why.
As she looked around, she saw the greatness of this wood, and that was what had made her gasp. Her first thought was to explore the wood, but fear soon gripped her and she stood a moment, pondering everything in her mind. Why had mother forbidden her from coming here? It must be because of some danger that lurked behind the trees, or even worse, inside the trees. Also, if the wood had grown out of her house, then she expected that her house must be some where nearby. She set out to find her house almost immediately, but just as she walked around a great oak, danger, the danger, struck her all at once, and she vanished from all sight.
Meanwhile, Lucy's sister Sarah found herself caught up in this wood, as well. She had been in the kitchen when mother entered, leaving Lucy alone in the Living room, but do you think that someone would not notice if their living room had suddenly lost it's walls and floors, and completely turned into a wood? And to have their daughter gone, too? Mother knew that Lucy must be found at once, so she and Sarah set out to find her. They had not gone far, however, when a great tree trunk seemed to come from nowhere, and completely separated the two of them, for, no matter how far around it you traveled, you couldn't reach the other side. Sarah, after trying many times, finally started out looking for Lucy. Mother would reach her some how or another, she thought, so she was not worried. But where was Lucy?
"Lucy! Oh, Lucy!"Sarah called out in alarm. the woods looked dark and foreboding, and, alas, she could see no Lucy.

To be continued later....

From the notebook....

A different kind of poetry, a different kind of rhyme, I now present to you; It is different this time:

Nothing is so pretty,
On a Saturday afternoon than
Valiant leaves falling
Ere the wind blows them far.
Memories of past months, and many
Better seasons, these leaves have recorded
Even to the last
Rough summer

Read this poem across, both horizontally and vertically; although there is no rhyme to it, dost thou note some thing else?

Psalm 24:1-10

Psalm 24:1-10
The earth is the Lord's and all it's fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein.
For He has founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the waters.
Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?
Or who may stand in His holy place?
He who has a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.
He shall receive blessing from the Lord,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face
(Selah)
Lift up your heads O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
The Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
Lift up your everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
He is the King of glory.
(Selah)
